FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the fundamental approach of the psychotherapy offered?
The core approach of Health Touch Psychotherapy in London is somatic and energetic, rooted in Reichian Body Psychotherapy and Orgonomy. This collaborative work explores how past experiences are held as 'body armour' (chronic physical tension), moving beyond talk therapy toward an embodied shift into greater aliveness and personal sovereignty. Drawing on Deirdre's over 40 years of continuous practice, multi-disciplined trainings, and wide-ranging life experience, each session is highly adaptable catering to you, whether you are a deeply technical or highly spiritual individual.
2. How are sessions tailored, and what is the length?
Sessions are entirely unique and specifically tailored to your needs based on Deirdre's four decades of experience. All psychotherapy and healing sessions are a full 60 minutes (not the standard 50 minutes), with a 15-minute break between clients to ensure an unhurried, positive transition back to your day.
3. Is this short-term or long-term therapy?
The work focuses on characterological change and dissolving 'body armour,' which is inherently a longer-term commitment for profound, sustained transformation. Short-term counselling can be mutually agreed upon, though your appointment time may vary each week. The primary aim is a committed journey toward vitality and character transformation.
4. What exactly are Reichian Body Psychotherapy and Orgonomy, and what about Shamanic work?
Reichian Body Psychotherapy and Orgonomy focus on how psychological issues manifest as muscular armour (physical blocks) and work to restore the natural flow of life-energy. The modalities applied are always collaboratively chosen to align with your unique character and philosophy.
Shamanic work may be incorporated into your session and is only available for clients in ongoing psychotherapy or counselling. This aspect of a session deals with the spiritual aspect of wellbeing and does not replace the need for traditional psychological and medical treatment (see Disclaimer).
5. Why is 'The Ending Process' emphasised?
It is your therapy; you can leave whenever and however you want. However, a good ending provides you with additional insight, adequate closure, and a positive conclusion in a life full of negative endings. The most complete therapeutic experience includes all three phases: building rapport, deepening the work, and concluding with this ending process where we review, celebrate your achievement, and acknowledge feelings of this ending. These last few sessions also include future pacing to rehearse your new, resourceful state into your future life template. Clients who have completed psychotherapy are welcome to return at any time, on an ad hoc or regular basis.
6. Where is your practice located, and is travel convenient?
Health Touch is located in Putney, South West London (SW15). The location offers exceptional convenience:
-
Driving: The clinic is outside the ULEZ and Congestion Zone, with the significant benefit of free parking on site.
-
Public Transport: Easily accessible via bus and train (Waterloo links to Putney/Barnes) and tube (District Line to Putney Bridge/East Putney).
7. How do I begin working with you, and what is the commitment structure?
The first step is a confidential, complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to ensure a collaborative fit. If you wish to proceed, the therapeutic journey is structured in three clear, autonomous steps:
-
Consultation Session: An initial, in-person meeting to experience the work (paid in advance online).
-
Initial Six-Session Trial: A commitment to six consecutive weekly appointments, followed by a collaborative review to decide whether to continue or not.
-
Continuing Work: Following a positive review, we commit to regular, consecutive weekly sessions, prioritising consistency for lasting change.
8. What is the payment schedule and policy for sessions?
The initial consultation session is paid in advance online. After that, payment is per session and is due at the time the session takes place. Full details regarding payment methods, cancellations, and missed appointments are found in the Terms and Conditions. Please also review the Privacy Policy, which outlines our commitment to client confidentiality and data protection.
9. What should I do to prepare for my sessions?
To maximise the value of our work, I encourage self-awareness during your week. Helpful practices (detailed on the Tips for Psychotherapy) include noticing your thoughts and body sensations. Upon arrival, you are given a few minutes to yourself to gather your thoughts, feel into what is important, and notice how you are today.
